Garden Designer and Gardener

About

I come from a family of keen gardeners and have always sought out ways of having my own little outdoor space – from the little garden trough my mum gave me as a child to do with what I liked to the gardens I have developed in the different places I have lived over the years. Having worked in publishing for many years, I craved a more creative career where I could spend time outside and channel my passion for design. I retrained and studied for a diploma in Garden Design from the British Academy of Garden Design, where I was awarded a distinction. I am also currently studying on the RHS Level 2 Practical Horticulture course at Sparsholt College, Hampshire.
My work is driven by a love of sustainable gardening and an interest in how our changing climate affects the plants that can thrive. I often seek out drought-tolerant species and carve out pockets of wildflowers to invite biodiversity into every space. I aim to create gardens that feel effortlessly sophisticated, yet carry a hint of wildness.
I am based just outside of Winchester at the edge of the South Downs National Park and I am happy to work across Hampshire and the surrounding areas.

Design Services

Consultation
If you aren’t sure what to do with your garden, I offer a consultation service where we can talk through your space and what you want to get out of it. This can either be done online or in person and it will begin by completing a questionnaire about your likes and dislikes. After this initial consultation, I will send you a written report that may include planting options, paving/hardscaping suggestions, and layout ideas
The cost of this consultation is £300, which includes an in-person or online meeting and the written report.

Planting design and small projects
Are you unsure which plants will grow best in your garden or what works well together? Or perhaps you have some plants or features that you love but you want to add more and don't know where to start. I can put together a planting design that will include a moodboard, list of species, after care and quantities. If you wish, I can source the plants and plant them for you, leaving them in the best possible condition to thrive. I am also available to return to your garden to look after your plants and ensure they remain looking their best. Contact me to discuss this option and how I can help you. The fee for this starts at £300, including a meeting in your garden.

Full design
If your garden is a blank canvas or looking tired and unloved, a full design service can rejuvenate your outside space so it becomes somewhere you can’t wait to spend time in. Perhaps you would like somewhere to unwind in the evening with a glass of wine, or a spot to enjoy your morning coffee. Or maybe you would like a safe space for your children to play, or you want to start growing your own vegetables but don’t know how to incorporate this into your garden. Whatever you want to get out of your garden, I can help you to realise your ambitions.

How it works
I will first send you a questionnaire to get a sense of what you want from your garden and your likes and dislikes. I will then arrange to visit you and spend time in your home and garden so that I can analyse the site and, importantly, see what your home style is and how that can transfer to your garden. Next, I will put together a concept plan and once you are happy, I will finalise the details including planting plans, construction details and lighting plans. If you wish, I can recommend suppliers and project manage the build of the garden.
The fee for a full design varies by project and will include an initial consultation as described above for £300. Design work involves a lot of desk work and research and fees can therefore vary depending on the complexity of the design. Once we have had our initial consultation, I will send you a fee proposal so you can be clear about my process and costs before moving on to the full design.
